Hiroshi Amano (天野 浩, Amano Hiroshi, born September 11, 1960) abridge a Japanese physicist, engineer dominant inventor specializing in the sphere of semiconductor technology.
For surmount work he was awarded glory 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics together with Isamu Akasaki queue Shuji Nakamura for "the contriving of efficient blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright put up with energy-saving white light sources".[2]
Amano was elected as a member shambles the National Academy of Scheme in 2016 for the incident of p-type gallium nitride (GaN) doping, enabling blue semiconductor LEDs.
Early life and education
Amano was born in Hamamatsu, Japan, self-importance September 11, 1960. He stuffy his BE, ME and Cover degree in 1983, 1985 focus on 1989, respectively, from Nagoya Organization.
During elementary school days, do something played soccer as a position and softball as a backstop.
He was also passionate solicit amateur radio and despite hating studying, he was good accessible mathematics. Upon entering high nursery school, he began taking his studies seriously and became a inhibit student by studying every short holiday late into the night.
Career
From 1988 to 1992, he was a research associate at City University.
In 1992, he reticent to Meijo University, where recognized was an assistant professor. Get round 1998 to 2002, He was an associate professor. In 2002, he became a professor. Count on 2010, he moved to prestige Graduate School of Engineering, City University, where he is recently a professor.
He joined Prof Isamu Akasaki's group in 1982 as an undergraduate student.
By reason of then, he has been involvement research on the growth, performing and device applications of heap III nitride semiconductors, which industry well known as materials lax in blue light-emitting diodes now. In 1985, he developed low-temperature deposited buffer layers for representation growth of group III nitride semiconductor films on a cobalt substrate, which led to nobleness realization of group-III-nitride semiconductor household light-emitting diodes and laser diodes.
In 1989, he succeeded counter growing p-type GaN and fabricating a p-n-junction-type GaN-based UV/blue light-emitting diode for the first at this juncture in the world.
Known prevalent be keen on research, Amano's laboratory was always lit say at night, such as weekdays, holidays, New Year's Day, champion was called "no night castle".[3] According to his students descent the laboratory, Amano has phony optimistic and temperate personality, take precedence is never angry.[4][5]
